The following showcase just a few examples of awards and recognition earned by the hospitals in the Novant Health system.

Magnet status for Novant Health

The American Nurses Credentialing Center recognizes the nursing programs at five Novant Health hospitals for their excellence and quality in nursing care. These five hospitals join a select national group that has achieved Magnet status.

Novant Health

  • 2008 – Ranked 12th nationally among the Top 100 Healthcare Networks, according to an analysis by the SDI health informatics company.
  • 2008 and 2004 – Earned the Ernest A. Codman award for improving the quality and safety of care provided to patients and for preventing MRSA infections by improving hand hygiene. The award was presented by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
  • 2006 – Awarded the President's Award for commitment to service excellence for patients, physicians and employees, presented by Professional Research Consultants (PRC), a nationally recognized healthcare research company. In 2008, PRC also honored Novant Health with 205 individual satisfaction awards based upon high ratings from medical staff, employees and patients.
  • 2009 – Carolina Parenting Inc. (Carolina Parent, Piedmont Parent and Charlotte Parent magazines) named Novant Health to the Family-Friendly 50 list, in recognition of making life easier for working parents through flexible policies and family-friendly benefits.
  • 2004 – Named as one of the nation’s 25 most improved hospitals on the annual Most Wired list, published by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine. The award recognizes hospitals and health systems that are leading the way in effectively using Internet technologies for quality, safety, business and workforce initiatives.

Forsyth Medical Center and Presbyterian Hospital

  • 2008 – Recognized as the only two U.S. hospitals among all of the VHA's Joint Commission reporting organizations to earn Superior System Performance honors for achieving high-level performance in all four quality measure categories: acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care improvement.
  • The National Research Corporation (NRC) honored Novant Health with two Consumer Choice Awards that recognize hospitals that healthcare consumers have chosen as having the highest quality and image in the region. NRC recognized Forsyth Medical Center with the 2005-2006 award and Presbyterian Hospital with the same award in 2007-2008.
  • Forsyth and Presbyterian were also the first hospitals in the state to receive National Primary Stroke Center Certification from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
